An Angie man died Monday after sustaining injuries in an ATV accident, according to information from the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Mike Haley said that the crash Sunday evening claimed the life of 22-year-old Andrew Kennedy. A passenger on the ATV was injured and her status was not immediately available Monday afternoon, Haley said.

Haley said a witness saw Kennedy driving an ATV on Henry Kennedy Road early Sunday evening when he made a turn and the ATV flipped over, landing on top of Kennedy and his passenger. The WPSO received a call at 7:45 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 8:09 p.m. When officers arrived, they discovered both riders on the side of the road being treated by members of Fire District 5. Both riders were transported by Northshore EMS to local hospitals.

Haley said that deputies were unable to determine exactly how the accident occurred, due to the ATV being removed from the wreck location. The investigation is ongoing and a crash scene investigator should visit the scene this week in an attempt to reconstruct the accident.

Sheriff Randy Seal said that the WPSO sends its support to the Kennedy family.

“It is so tragic for any family to lose a loved one in such a situation,” he said. “We offer our sincere sympathy to the Kennedy family during this time of grief and mourning.”
