Acting on information that someone was selling weapons from a room at the Sportsman Inn Motel south of Bogalusa, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested Cody E. Young, 24, a resident of Highway 43 South, Columbia, Mississippi. Young was in possession of weapons and jewelry, which had allegedly been stolen from a residence in Mississippi.

In addition to selling stolen weapons from the motel room, Young allegedly also attempted to sell the weapons through a social media sales group. The sheriff’s department said they did not know whether or not any sales were completed in this manner. Young is now in the Washington Parish Jail charged with possession of stolen firearms, possession of stolen property and possession of Schedule I Drugs. No bond has been set as of Tuesday afternoon.

Both the Marion County, Mississippi and the Pearl River County, Mississippi sheriffs’ offices became involved after the arrest due to their interest in Young as a suspect in other burglaries in each county. It is expected each county will obtain warrants for Cody’s arrest on those burglaries.

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal commented, “Once again we are dealing with criminals who travel between Louisiana and Mississippi and once again we have them in jail where they belong. Apparently, the criminal element does not understand that we work closely with all surrounding parishes and counties and pool our resources to solve crimes. In this situation, Sheriff David Allison from Pearl River County and Sheriff Berkley Hall from Marion County are close allies in our effort to identify and arrest criminals.”

Any person who has purchased weapons or other property from Young is asked to call the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division at 985-661-2021.
