Ruthie Lee Rester Lewis, 84, a longtime resident of Franklinton, died early Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at the Oschner Medical Center in Kenner.

She had moved to Amelia to live with family about three years ago and became a membe,r of Bayou Chene Baptist Church. She enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers but her life centered around caring for her own family and being involved with her church family.

She is survived by: two sons and daughters-in-law, James T. and Aliene Lewis of Dayton, Texas, and Larry E. and Cheryl Lewis of Mont Belvieu, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joann and Joseph Verret, and Diane and Everett Verret all of Amelia; 14 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and also numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Theodore Lewis; her parents, James A. Rester and Catherine Jenkins Rester; sister, Beulah Mae Jenkins; five brothers, Frank Rester, Earl Rester, Wilton Rester, Edgar Rester and Henry Rester; and great-grandson, Kevin Lewis.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Thursday, April 28, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Friday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Richard Magee, Bro. Joe Lott, and Bro. Jimmy Barber officiating. Burial will follow in the Poplarhead Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Jonathan Verret, Jeffery Lewis, Robert “Robbie” Lawson Jr., Tony Lewis, Kenneth Lewis and Anthony Lewis.
