Virginia Rodriguez

Virginia Anne Anthony Rodriguez, 66, of Bogalusa, Louisiana, died on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans after a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her father, John Wood Anthony, and is survived by her husband of 21 years, Alfred Ray Rodriguez; her mother, Marie Ware Anthony; her sister, Mary Anthony of Brighton, Colorado; her sister, Dr. Susan Anthony Crawford; brother-in-law, Philip Crawford; niece, Mary Margaret Crawford; and numerous other relatives.

Ginny was a 1967 graduate of Bogalusa High School and received her B.S. in Education from Louisiana State University (LSU) in 1971. She taught secondary English and Spanish at St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge for seven years. Also, she earned a Master of Education degree in Educational Media and Technology from LSU in 1981, and worked for the State Department of Education in the Division of Instructional Television. In 1987, she received the Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from LSU and practiced law in Baton Rouge for 20 years until her retirement in 2009.
In addition, she studied horticulture at LSU, became a licensed horticulturist, and was an active environmentalist since 1973.

She loved all living things, especially plants and animals, and was devoted to her pets.
Ginny was also an active member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Bogalusa, Louisiana, where she had served on the Vestry and as Senior Warden. She was a member of the Republican Women of Washington Parish, a member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association, and a retired member of the New Iberia, LA Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The family received friends at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Bogalusa on Tuesday, April 26, from 5-7 p.m., and again on Wednesday, April 27, from 12 – 2 p.m. at the church, with the funeral at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Immediately following this service, there will be a graveside service that will be held at Ponemah Cemetery in Bogalusa. The Rev. LeBaron Taylor will officiate at both services.

Pallbearers will be Philip Crawford, Rodney Harris, Charles McDaniel, Franklin Ramos, Armando Rodriguez, and Davey Rodriguez. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church; 208 Georgia Avenue; Bogalusa, La 70427; or to an animal shelter or humane society.
