Friday morning, hundreds of area seniors poured into the Parish Fairgrounds for the 36th annual senior picnic.
The picnic is a membership meeting for the Washington Parish Council on Aging, but it also includes games, door prizes, a cake walk, a magic show, a hat contest, a men’s leg’s contest and, of course, a picnic lunch. April King, the acting coordinator for the group, said the picnic is open to any senior in the parish.
“It’s for the seniors to have fun,” she said.
Various community groups, including the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, home health businesses, drug stores and other health groups, set up booths offering prizes and healthcare tips and tests.
King said the day typically draws between 200 and 225 people.
