Bogalusa police are looking for a suspect who broke into Rocky’s Med Shoppe Sunday morning and stole medication.

Police Chief Joe Culpepper said that an unknown person broke in at 5:33 a.m. and somehow managed to temporarily disable the alarm system.

“They were able to defeat the alarm system. It did finally go off but it was too late,” he said.

Culpepper declined to offer too many specifics in the case, as it is still under investigation.

“A quantity of medications were taken,” he said.

Culpepper said the person made several trips into the pharmacy and he believes a single person committed the thefts.

“They made two or three trips in. If you watch it on the video, I think there’s just one (person),” said Culpepper.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

In an unrelated case, Culpepper said police recently arrested a man with a gun and drugs after a routine traffic stop.

“It was a traffic stop,” Culpepper said. “(Officers) were working, just riding around Richardson Town and his driving behavior drew the officers’ attention. And it kind of went downhill for him after that.”

The chief said police arrested Aaron R. Magee, 21, on Thursday, and charged him with careless operation of a vehicle; possession with intent to distribute MDMA (also known as ecstasy) and Xanax, a Schedule IV narcotic; illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of controlled substances and possession of a stolen firearm.

Culpepper said the gun was a .40 caliber Springfield Armory, and it was reported stolen in St. Tammany Parish.

In total, police recovered over 200 ecstasy pills and 30 Xanax pills, in addition to cash.

“I think it’s mighty good work,” Culpepper said. “They’re proactively trying to stop the crime.”

Juvenile victim hurt in accidental shooting

Culpepper said city officers also responded to an accidental shooting in Bogalusa, but both the victim and the suspect are juveniles, so he could not release much information. He said the shooting happened Saturday, and the victim was airlifted to emergency care.

“There was no fatality,” Culpepper said. “He was injured and airlifted.”

Culpepper said he believes the victim will survive.
