Wilkie Jackson

Wilkie Jackson, the daughter of the late Willie Ruff Jackson and Mattie Thompson-Jackson, was born in Tylertown, Miss. on Nov. 30, 1923.

She passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Rest Haven Living Center in Bogalusa, after a brief illness at the age of 92.

She united and attended Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at Dexter, Miss., at an early age until she relocated to New Orleans, where she would spend the next 40 years working at the Roosevelt Hotel as a cook assistant and later as a cook before retiring to enjoy the easy life.

She is survived by her sister, Queen Ester Daniels of Marrero; four brothers, Lawrence Jackson of Lafayette, John Jackson (Clotial) of Varnado, Airl Jackson (Rose) of New Orleans, and Bobby Jackson (Stephanie) of New Orleans. She also leaves to mourn her passing a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 23, in the chapel of Cook-Richmond Funeral Home at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Terrence August officiating.
