Ragin’ Cajuns top seed in WBI

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns’ women’s basketball team has accepted an invitation to play in the Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI). The opening round is tonight.

Gabby Alexander, a 2013 Bogalusa High School graduate, is a member of the Louisiana team.

This season, Alexander has had limited play. The junior is averaging 1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. She is averaging 6.6 minutes per contest.

Alexander has converted 41.7 percent of her field goals and 72.7 percent of her free throws.

Louisiana, which won the event last season with a 52-50 victory over Siena College, is the top-seeded team in the East Division.

The Ragin’ Cajuns are will take on eighth-seeded Northwestern State this evening at 5 p.m. in the Cajundome.

Northwestern enters with a 19-11 record.

The tournament features 16 teams — eight each from the East and the West. It is a single-elimination event, and contests take place at the campus sites.

Louisiana had 21 wins during the regular season, the most of any team in the WBI.
