Washington Parish now included in federal emergency declaration

Gov. John Bel Edwards’ request that President Barack Obama expand the existing federal declaration for the state of Louisiana to include an additional 16 parishes was granted Tuesday afternoon. Washington Parish is among the parishes added to the declaration.

“This expanded declaration will provide much needed resources for Louisiana families in serious need of assistance during such a challenging time,” Edwards said. “My administration and officials across the state will continue to work together to help every citizen in need.”

The newly approved parishes are Washington, Beauregard, Bienville, Caddo, Caldwell, DeSoto, LaSalle, Livingston, Madison, Natchitoches, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Union, Vernon, West Carroll and Winn.

Previously approved parishes were Bossier, Claiborne, Grant, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland and Webster.
