Varnado’s boys basketball team advanced in the playoffs Tuesday night with a 63-43 victory over North Central in the regional round of the state playoffs.

The win moved the Wildcats one game closer to the ultimate goal of every high school sports team — the state championship.

The fifth-seeded Wildcats have proven to be a tough team with their height, speed, good shooters and good defenders.

Against North Central, Varnado did a great job of playing tough defense and rebounding. The team struggled from the floor, shooting 36.2 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from the free-throw line, but the Wildcats still found a way to win.

Tonight, Varnado returns back home to face No. 4 Arcadia at 7 p.m.

The winner goes to the semifinals.
