RMC to host ‘chili cook-off’

If you’re in need of lunch plans Friday, the Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton is offering up chili for a good cause.

Kristi Knight, the community outreach director, said the hospital is hosting the second-annual chili cook-off, with all proceeds going toward the American Heart Association.

Knight said the hospital participates in the Northshore Heart Walk each March, and funds raised from the January cook-off are counted along with funds raised in the heart walk.

Though the cook-off is only in its second year, Knight is hopeful.

“We raised almost a thousand dollars last year, and were hoping to beat that,” she said on Monday. “I got about eight people signed up so far.”

There is no deadline to enter, and Knight said people could even show up the day of the event with a crock pot of chili. Her only request is that it must be homemade.

“I told people to just make it, don’t pour cans of chili in the crock pot,” she said. “It has to be homemade.”

It is $10 to enter a crock pot of chili and $5 to judge. The judging includes a bowl of chili and a scorecard.

The contest will be in the hospital’s cafeteria. The hospital is located at 1900 Main St. off Highway 10 in downtown Franklinton.
