Beth Mizell of Franklinton, the new state senator for District 12, will join several committees as a member of the 2016-20 Louisiana State Senate.

On Wednesday, Senate President John Alario announced all committee assignments and appointments for the coming legislative term.

Mizell was named to the Senate Retirement Committee, chaired by Sen. Barrow Peacock; the Senate Commerce Committee, chaired by Sen. Danny Martiny; and the Senate Education Committee, chaired by Sen. Dan “Blade” Morrish.

Mizell was also named the vice chair of the Select Committee on Women and Children, chaired by Sen. Regina Barrow.
