Washington Parish Chief Deputy Mike Haley said Tuesday that a Mississippi man was recently arrested, and is a suspect in a September 2015 burglary at a parish church.

On Sept. 11, 2015, the church on Highway 438 reported a burglary where thieves entered the building through a back window and stole musical equipment and other church property.

Haley said that when Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives arrived at the scene, they discovered blood, which appeared to have come from one of the burglars who was cut while making entrance through the broken window. Blood samples were obtained and sent to the Louisiana State Police Lab for processing.

Haley said results of the lab processing were obtained earlier this month and indicated the blood belonged to Gerard Davis, a resident of McComb, Miss.

Washington Parish detectives obtained a warrant of Davis’s arrest and sent it to the McComb Police Department, which arrested Davis. On Monday, Washington Parish detectives traveled to McComb and transported Davis to the Washington Parish Jail.

Davis, 25, remains in jail charged on a charge of burglary of a religious building. No bond has been set for him at this time.

“Apparently, thieves are slow learners and fail to understand that we will pursue them no matter where they are and use every means at our disposal to identify and capture them,” Sheriff Randy Seal said. “In this case, our detectives were able to capture blood samples and other evidence which led them to Davis. I am grateful to our detectives for their good work and am pleased that one more thief is behind bars.”
