Bogalusa Voters League to host MLK march on Jan. 18

On Monday, Jan. 18, the Bogalusa Voters League will host the annual celebration of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.
The march is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. starting from the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and North Avenue. It will proceed to the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church where a program will be held.
The speaker for the occasion will be Willie Robertson, who is native of Bogalusa who currently resides in Gulfport, Miss.
Robertson retired from the U.S. Air Force as a sergeant major. He is a Louisiana Department of Corrections retiree and retired as a lieutenant. He also served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He is a Vietnam veteran and was drafted while attending Grambling State University.
Through the Air Force, Robertson earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and an associate’s degree in methodology.
Robertson currently serves as Chairman of the Deacon Board of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Gulfport. He was also director of security at two Gulfport casinos.
Bogalusa Voters League President Marvin Austin Sr. encourages all ministers, churches and civic groups to attend the march and program, which is open to the public.
