William Michael Van Haverbeke, “Mike,” was called to his heavenly home on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 at West Jefferson Medical Hospital, after valiantly fighting many illnesses during his life.

He was the loving father to Michael Van Haverbeke (wife Kelli), Brian Van Haverbeke (wife Courtney), and Jason Van Haverbeke (wife Jeanette); grandfather to Kaitlyn, Brian Jr., Bryce, and Makenzie; ex-husband to Margaret S. Van Haverbeke Boudreaux (husband Wayne); and brother to Jenny Kersey (husband Russ) and Alida Gage.

He is preceded in death by his father, Gaston L. Van Haverbeke, and mother, Billie Teddlie.

Born on July 9, 1947 to Gaston and Billie, Mike graduated form West Jefferson High School in 1965. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1972.

He married the love of his life, Margaret Scariban, in 1967 and together had three sons. An entrepreneurial spirit, Mike successfully started his family’s business, Southland Rental Tools, Inc., in 1981 in Belle Chasse. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing the lower coast of Plaquemines Parish and coaching his sons’ baseball teams.

Although his life was detoured by illness, he possessed a kind soul and always wore a smile.  Mike will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  The family would like to thank all of those who have helped care for Mike through the years. Your compassion, love, and care have been truly appreciated.
