A Franklinton man is in the Washington Parish Jail after he was charged with negligent vehicular homicide in the death of his grandfather Monday afternoon on Louisiana Highway 438 near Warnerton.

Kevin Tate, 36, of J.S. King Road in Franklinton, is charged in the death of his 85-year-old grandfather, Denman Tate, who also lived on J.S. King Road.

Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office Dep. Chief Shannon Lyons said the men apparently got into an argument and Kevin Tate pulled over to the side of the road. Lyons said some sort of altercation followed on the side of the road. Kevin Tate returned to the vehicle to leave and then struck Denman Tate.

Kevin Tate left the scene and returned and was arrested. He was also charged with first offense driving while intoxicated.

“We responded to a call of an injured person,” Lyons said. “We found Mr. Denman Tate bleeding from his head.

He was taken by ambulance to Riverside Medical Center and then on to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, where he died.”

No bond has been set for Kevin Tate.
