Sterling Laurent Sr.

A veteran solider, Sterling Gerald Laurent Sr., marched on home Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015 at the age of 49 in Bogalusa.

Sterling was born to the late James Brookter and Helen Ray Laurent on Sept. 25, 1966. He was united in marriage to Tammie McGowan on Oct. 10, 1987.

He graduated with the class of 1987 from Bogalusa High School, and joined the U.S. Army after graduation.

He leaves to cherish his memories who loved him his devoted wife, Tammie Laurent; one daughter, Destiny Laurent; two sons, Sterling Gerald Laurent Jr. and Steven Laurent; adopted son, John Lee Lavigne who he loved and cherished; his twin brother, Stephen Laurent, a love only twins would know; and one sister, Necola Brookter; two stepsisters, Michelle Williams Holmes and Aretha Williams; uncle, Rev. Louis Laurent and Emmit Laurent; aunts, Precious Laurent Tillman and Deloris Manning; a special sister who helped raise him, Regina Magee; and special brother, Bruce Magee, Stephon Magee and Wardell Magee Jr.; his future stars, Kameron McGowan, Kim McGowan Jr., Tyrese Roussell and James Newman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and special friends.

Preceding him in death are his mother and father, Helen and James Brookter; uncle, Earnest Laurent Jr.; aunts, Carolyn Magee and Marilyn Tillman; and grandparents, Geneva Laurent and Ernest Laurent.

A memorial is planned Sunday, Dec. 13, at the Avenue U baseball park. Visitation will be at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church on Monday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Stanley Nathaniel officiating. Interment will follow in Bogalusa Cemetery.
