Carol Strickland Poirier

Carol Strickland Poirier, 72, of Columbia, N.C., and a former resident of Bogalusa, passed away on Nov. 30, 2015.

Carol was born May 20, 1943, in Lake Charles. Carol’s parents moved to Bogalusa when she was in the fourth grade, and she graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1961. She continued her education, majoring in Elementary Education at Southeastern Louisiana University and LSU, where she graduated in 1965.

She started her teaching career in New Orleans and later moved to Oakland, Calif., where she retired from her teaching career.

At an early age, Carol developed a deep love and concern for animals. She made a lifetime commitment to serve as an animal advocate. Carol moved to North Carolina after retirement, where she could pursue her love for horses and animals.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Carl G. and Ina H. Strickland, who were longtime residents of Bogalusa.

She is survived by her sister, Mathilde Strickland Munn; brother-in-law, Charles Munn of Vancleave, Miss.; niece, Leslie Munn Leyser (Clay) of Pass Christian, Miss.; nephew, Keith Munn (Lori) of Mobile, Ala.; and great-nieces and nephews, Austin, Elizabeth, Sara Munn and Hayes Leyser.

Carol’s friends will understand this quote:

“The wind of heaven

Is that which blows

Between a horse’s ears.”

As per Carol’s request, there will be no service. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to your local Humane Society.
