Mildred Palmer

Mildred Garner Cheatham Palmer departed this life in her childhood home in Bogalusa on Nov. 3, 2015. She was 91 years old.

She was the beloved mother of three children, Carol Cheatham Duke and David Cheatham (Anne Tate) of Bogalusa, and John Cheatham (Nanette) of Baton Rouge; the beloved grandmother to Daniel Cheatham (Cristin) of Denham Springs, Dawn Cheatham Lemieux (Donny) of Mobile, and Elizabeth Cheatham Wheat (Colby) of Bogalusa; and beloved great-grandmother to Julie, Isabella and Annabeth Wheat of Bogalusa, and Liam, Luke and Liev Lemieux of Mobile, all of whom survive her. Her seventh great-grandchild is expected by Daniel and Cristin Cheatham in December.

Mildred was a life-long member of Lee’s Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Maude Thibodeaux Garner; her brother and his wife, Garland and Odette Garner; and her two husbands, Kenneth Cheatham and Bailey Palmer.

Visitation was held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 5 beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dennis Allen officiating. Interment followed at Lee’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Earl Reese, Reggie Reese, George Domas, Joey Stewart, Pete Farmer and Colby Wheat. Honorary pallbearer was Daniel Cheatham.

The family is deeply grateful to Mrs. Palmer’s devoted and loving caregivers: Mary Miller, Shirley Jones, Theresa Thomas, Bethany Crooks, Annette Seal and Krystal Owens.

The family also greatly appreciates the kindness and dedication of the staff of Camellia Hospice, especially Bridget Johnson, Jessica Stevens, Patrick Magee and Eric Williams.
