Trick-or-treating still Saturday in Bogalusa

Saturday’s expected inclement weather forecast by the National Weather Service has forced changes to some Halloween trick-or-treating plans.
The town of Franklinton moved up its trick-or-treating activities from Saturday to 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight. That is the same plan for Angie, Varnado and the unincorporated areas of Washington Parish. The Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office recommended the time change.
Bogalusa’s Halloween activities are still on for Saturday. Trick-or-treating will be allowed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“The City of Bogalusa’s trick-or-treating is still on for Saturday as planned,” Mayor Wendy Perrette said on Thursday. “It’s not being moved unless Parish President Richard Thomas tells me otherwise. Right now, the bad weather doesn’t look like it’s going to get here until about 9 p.m., according to the Homeland Security people.”
Tonight’s city-wide fall festival “Block Party” at Cassidy Park is still on as scheduled. The festival will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“This is an opportunity for the kids to get out and be involved in the community,” Perrette said.
Admission to the event is free. Attendees are requested to bring canned food, socks or coats for donation to area homeless shelters. The Bogalusa Police Department will provide security.
Activities will include a candy rain, costume contest, face painting and trick or treating at over 40 booths. The Bogalusa High School Band is scheduled to perform and the Bogalusa Fire Department will supply a fire pump.
Organizers said there would be many giveaways, including television sets, gift cards from businesses and gift baskets. There will also be an antique car show.
Organizers would like to keep the park closed until 5 p.m. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles outside the park.
