The citywide “Fall Festival Block Party” is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30, in Cassidy Park. The event is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The event is in its fifth year, having grown from a small section on Avenue F in its first year to the current use of Cassidy Park.

Admission to the event is free. Attendees are requested to bring canned food, socks or coats for donation to area homeless shelters. Security will be provided by the Bogalusa Police Department.
Approximately 1,000 attended last October’s Block Party.

Business on the Block Committee member and La Petite La Riche Boutique owner Kallie Boleware Breland said everything except for one food booth would be free. A new wrinkle this year will be an exotic petting zoo.

“We’ll have a candy rain, costume contest, face painting, trick or treating at over 40 booths, and more,” Breland said. “The Bogalusa High School Band will perform and the Bogalusa Fire Department will supply a fire pump. We will just have a ton of giveaways.”

The event also features an antique car show and numerous inflatables for the younger children, including the Jurassic Park Obstacle Course.

Breland said giveaways would include television sets, gift cards from businesses and gift baskets.
Over 50 businesses have contributed to the Block Party this year.

“We have our mom and pop stores who contribute to the Block Party every year, but the big commercialized businesses, which don’t really need to advertise, stepped up to invest back into the community,” Breland said. “The businesses see direct revenues as a result of the advertisement.”

Breland said organizers would like to keep the park closed until 5 p.m. She said everybody is requested to park their vehicles outside the park.
