Lottie Mae Monroe Garfield

Lottie Mae Monroe Garfield, 81, of Long Beach, Calif., and a former resident of Bogalusa, went home to be with the angels on Oct. 7, 2015.

She is survived by her daughter and devoted caregiver of 17 years, Villa Monroe of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Mary E. (William) Morris of Baton Rouge and Jacklyn B. (Kenneth) Johnson of Gulfport, Miss., and a brother, James (Merlean) Monroe of Rochester, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Betty Monroe of Opelousas; nieces, Karen D. Monroe of Los Angeles, Tracy A. (Devon) Humes of Chicago, Ill., Villa J. Johnson of Gulfport, Nicole A. Monroe of Rochester; nephews, Rodderick S. “Bro Neph” (Andrea) Monroe of Baton Rouge, Barry A. (Crushana) Monroe of New Orleans, J’Appele S. Johnson of Detroit, Mich., James Monroe III of Opelousas; niece-in-law, Vanessa M. Monroe of Baton Rouge; 20 great-nieces and nephews; six great-great-nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by both parents, James and Josephine Monroe; sister, Betty J. Brown; brother, Brady Monroe Sr.; great-niece, Vaniyah Johnson; and nephew, Brady Monroe Jr.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Oct. 18, at Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Bogalusa, from 1 p.m. until the service time at 3 p.m. The service will be conducted by Elder Christopher Matthews.

Interment will follow in the Bogalusa Cemetery.
