John Hayward Dupont, 63, died peacefully at the VA Medical Center in Louisville, Ky., on Aug. 26, 2015, after a courageous fight against pulmonary fibrosis. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Johnny was born in Bogalusa, on Nov. 14, 1951, to Hayward and Victa Dupont, who preceded him in death. He honorably served our country in Vietnam and worked as an IBEW electrician. Johnny loved animals and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.

Johnny is survived by his wife and soul mate, Joanie Cassell of Santa Claus, Ind.; his children, Karen (David) Dupont Frank, Leann (Jon) Dupont Pease and John (Nicole) Dupont; sisters, Elaine Hatcher, Marguerite (Wade) Adams and Linda (Owen) Boothe; and six beautiful grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church in Santa Claus, with Fr. John Brosmer officiating.

Visitation was at the church on Friday, Aug. 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Parish or to the humane society of your choice.
