Greater Ebenezer welcoming guests for special session

President Dr. Bobby Showers Sr. will be the moderator when the Third District Bogue Chitto General M.B. Association kicks off it 40th annual session July 12 at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church.

The session runs through Friday, July 17, with the majority of the activities at Greater Ebenezer. Youth activities will also be held at the Bogalusa High School Auditorium on Wednesday and Friday.

Showers’ home churches are Rose Valley Baptist Church in Roseland and Zion Travelers M.B. Church in Independence.

The theme for the conference is “Prayer, the Pathway to God’s Promises.”

“We’re definitely expecting a big turnout,” Showers said. “We’re expecting about 400 young people Wednesday night at the Bogalusa High School Auditorium. We’re expecting a great turnout, not only with the youth, but middle-aged folks and the elderly. We’re inviting the general public to come out and enjoy the Lord with us in the great city of Bogalusa.”

Dr. Showers has preached for 34 years and pastored for 33 years come September. ”He said he was saved as a 9-year-old and rededicated his life at 22.

“That’s the best time to be saved because the younger the better,” Dr. Showers said. “There’s more work you can do for the Lord when you’re younger. When you’re young, you are full of energy.”

The Rev. Dr. Raymond Mims Sr. is the pastor of Greater Ebenezer.

Sunday’s sermon will be brought by Dr. Jerry Hanible, of Greenfield M.B. Church in Hammond.

At 9 a.m. on Monday, the Rev. Michael Otkins, of Greater Starlight Baptist Church in Covington, will deliver the message. He will be followed at 7 p.m. on Monday by Dr. Larry Cross of Berean M.B. Church in Hammond.

The Rev. Mallory Callahan II of First Free Mission Baptist Church in Covington delivers the message at 1:30 p.m. At 6 p.m. Tuesday, a Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church Youth Talent Night is scheduled.

Callahan will also deliver the message at 1:45 p.m., and Showers will speak Wednesday night during President’s Night at the auditorium.

Mims delivers Thursday afternoon’s sermon. Dr. Kenneth Davis of Tabernacle M.B. Church in D’Iberville, Miss., speaks at 8 p.m.

Showers makes remarks and closes the conference with prayer on Friday.
