3 charged in Monday shooting

Two adults and a juvenile were arrested Monday afternoon in the shooting of a man at his residence on Donnell Street.

Raymond Matthews, 66, was shot once in the face at approximately 1 p.m. Monday near the carport area.

Matthews called in the incident to police. He was later taken to a hospital in Baton Rouge, where he is recovering.

The adults arrested in the incident were Bogalusa residents Demetric Sowell, 23, of Lasley Street, and 20-year-old Trevonne Mingo, of Riverside Drive.

Sowell was charged with attempted second-degree murder, armed robbery, armed robbery with a gun, possession of stolen property and resisting an officer. Mingo was charged with aggravated flight from an officer, accessory after the fact to armed robbery, possession of stolen property and accessory after the fact to attempted second-degree murder.

Bogalusa Police Chief Joe Culpepper said the juvenile is currently in the Florida Parishes Detention Center near Hammond. He was charged with accessory after the fact to attempted second-degree murder, accessory after the fact to armed robbery.

The two adults and juvenile were apprehended at a home in the Richardsontown neighborhood.

“Kudos to the detectives and Capt. Jeff Varnado’s shift for making the arrests within two hours,” Culpepper said. “They did a great job.”
