Children at Greater Bogalusa Baptist Church’s Upward Summer Camp had a unique experience during Wednesday’s program.

Campers saw first hand how police canines have the ability to sniff out contraband hidden by their handlers.

Rayburn Correctional Center’s Lt. Cody Williams brought along his dog Fanny to demonstrate its ability at sniffing out hidden items. Every place Williams hid an item, the canine discovered in a matter of seconds.

Williams was joined at the camp by Bogalusa Police Department Detective Lt. Patrick Lyons and Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Damon Mitchell. All three presented tips on how the children can protect themselves and what narcotics and other dangerous drugs look like.

The officers warned the campers not to succumb to peer pressure and take drugs offered to them.

The camp was for children between the ages of 5 and 14. Campers had the opportunity to ask each of the officers questions about their job and law enforcement career.
