The Franklinton Police Department arrested a convenience store manager on June 8 and charged her with theft.

Franklinton Self-Serve manager Glenda Smith, 46, was arrested and charged with stealing between $5,000 and $25,000.

Sgt. James Folks investigated the case and discovered that from December 2014 to May 2015, Smith allegedly took cash deposits from the store totaling more than $19,000.

The owner of Pigott Oil Co., which owns Franklinton Self-Serve, reported unusual or late bank deposits on May 26. The company found other irregularities during an investigation and contacted the Franklinton Police Department. Folks’ investigation found Smith had allegedly taken the money over several months. Smith took merchandise form the store as well, according to Folks.

Folks said during the interview with Smith, Smith admitted taking the money and then altering deposit slips in an attempt to hide the theft. Folks said Smith also admitted taking money from two vending machines and not reporting or making the deposits.

Folks said the investigation revealed Smith stole the money and used it to help ill friends and family members.

Smith was released after posting $5,000 bond.
