Red Nose Day received much nationwide attention for the effort in raising money for children living on poverty.
Thursday was Red Nose Day in the U.S. Red Nose Day was sponsored by Comic Relief UK, an organization founded after the 1985 Live Aid concert.
Bogalusa Help Center President Gene Hayman doesn’t quite have the resources to generate as much publicity as programs such as Red Nose Day. To Hayman, every day is Red Nose Day when it comes to helping hungry and needy citizens.
The May 9 Postal Food Drive went a long way toward assisting the hungry and needy people in the area. While they were on their route, postal workers picked up donated food items left near mailboxes and then delivered the food to the Help Center.
Hayman said the Postal Food Drive was a big success as approximately 5,000 pounds of food was donated and delivered to the Help Center, located at 350 Martin Luther King Drive.
Maybe the Postal Food Drive didn’t generate as much attention as Red Nose Day, but it is not any less important when it comes to helping people get a hand up. Both endeavors should be commended for their efforts in putting food in hungry mouths wherever it might be.
Congratulations on a job well done.
