Velma Pittman Seal, age 101, passed away peacefully Friday, May 15, 2015, at Resthaven Living Center. She was born July 12, 1913, in Kokomo, Miss. She was a longtime resident of Varnado and lived in Bogalusa the past 18 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bogalusa and a former member of Varnado Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday school for many years.

She was owner of Community Grocery Store in Varnado after her husband passed away. She moved to Bogalusa after retiring, then ironed for many local people for several years.

She lived independently through her 100th birthday, and in February 2014, she decided it was time to move to Resthaven, where she could provide friendship and love to residents who needed it. She enjoyed the friendships she made and especially the afternoon coffee get-togethers in the dinning room.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Billy Wayne and Earnestine Seal; a granddaughter, Sandy Seal Cunningham; a grandson, Jim Ezell, and his partner, Kip Finch; a great-granddaughter, Cassidy Cunningham; a step-great-grandson, Kerry Cunningham Jr.; a brother-in-law, Luther Seals; numerous nieces and nephews and their families; and special friends Marylee McKenzie and Seawillow Warner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Seal; an infant son, Robert N. Seal; a daughter, Jacqueline Seal; her parents, John and Sarah Margaret “Sallie” Pittman; Three brothers, George Pittman, Johnnie Pittman, and Wilton Pittman; nine sisters, Roxie Whittom, Lela Bishop, Letha Mae Delancy, Estelle Richardson, Jessie Williams, Beulah Harris Miley and Mollie, Iris and Linsley Pittman; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Sunday, May 17, 2015, at 11 a.m. and continued until service time of 3 p.m. at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel, and interment took place at Seal Cemetery in Varnado.
