Football teams around the area are getting set for the upcoming season, and spring games continue tonight.

Last week, Varnado had its spring game at home while Ben’s Ford Christian School and Bowling Green School went to Wilkinson County Christian Academy for their spring contests last night.

Tonight, fans from the area won’t have far to travel to see their teams in action, as both Bogalusa and Franklinton are at home for spring football.

Bogalusa is hosting a 3-way contest with Plaquemines and Mentorship Academy.

The junior high school game begins at 4 p.m. while the high school takes the field at 5 p.m.

Franklinton is in action against Hammond at 6 p.m.

On May 21, Pine is traveling to Jewel Sumner for a 5:30 p.m. spring game.

Although we are still months away from the start of the regular season, the spring can be an exciting time for players, coaches and fans.

The fans get a chance to see their team in action, and the games help serve as sort of a preview into next season. The coaches have a chance to evaluate their talent against an opponent and see how their team is looking. The players get an opportunity to play against somebody other than their teammates.

Each spring game is different as far as the format is concerned, but the idea is to continually improve. When the regular season begins, you want to field the best team possible and give yourself a chance to make a long run in the playoffs.

Good luck to all the local coaches and players as they begin the work of fielding the best possible teams when school resumes in August.
