Saturday’s 2015 American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Washington Parish raised a little over $35,000, according to Community Manager for Relay for Life for St. Tammany and Washington parishes Nicole Maddox Smith.

Smith said just over $20,000 was raised Saturday alone. Approximately $15,000 was raised before Saturday.

Smith said approximately 500 people attended the event at Cassidy Park.

“The crowd was not as big as we expected, but we are pleased with the amount,” Smith said. “There were other activities going on that day, which cut down on the crowd.”

Smith said the group’s goal is $63,000. She said future fundraising events include a Celebrity Waiter.

The local Relay for Life had 20 teams participating. Smith said 40 cancer survivors attended the event.
