While making rounds in the jail shortly after 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Washington Parish Jail officers discovered the body of an inmate who appeared to have taken his own life.

Timothy Bryan Barrett, 37, had been in the Washington Parish Jail since early Feb. 2015. He had been arrested by the Bogalusa Police Department and was being held as a fugitive for the State of Virginia. Although Barrett was arrested in Bogalusa, that was not his permanent home. His family is in Minnesota.

The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office asked for investigative assistance from Louisiana State Police and the District Attorney’s Office. Northshore EMS and the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office also responded.

State Police investigators and the District Attorney investigator are working with Washington Parish investigators, looking at every aspect of the apparent suicide. Preliminary reports from all investigative agencies indicate no evidence of foul play. The investigation is continuing.

“It is always regrettable when any individual decides to take his own life.,” Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said. “I extend my sincere condolences to Mr. Barrett’s family.”
