Dear Editor:

On May 2, 2015, you can do something good for Washington Parish. Vote “yes” on Proposition No. 4 to renew the millage tax for our libraries. This is not a new tax, but a renewal for funds the libraries have been receiving for 10 years. Federal and state funds are dwindling and the new fiscal cycle begins July 1, 2015.

There are four library building locations (Franklinton, Bogalusa, Enon and Thomas) all older structures. Over 400 people a day visit one or another of these four locations.

Extended operating hours are available for students needing Internet access to complete homework or for those who apply for jobs online. Fifty percent of residences of Washington Parish are without computer technology in the home. The library provides technology equipment and wireless Internet service at all branches. Free instructions on computer use are available, as is technical assistance, when needed.

In addition to computer training classes we offer 3-D printing, craft events and many activities for children and adults.

Also available to check out are books in all categories, DVD movies, books on CD and more.

The parish library is yours. Explore it and discover the services it has to offer.

And vote yes for libraries on May 2.
