Time once again for Citizen of the Year nominations

Published 8:22 am Wednesday, April 8, 2015

In Friday’s edition, The Daily News will begin running its yearly nomination form for Citizen of the Year.

The time to get nominations in this year is a little short — names must be received by April 30 — so start thinking about those people you know in the community who are deserving of such an honor. And give particular thought to people whose work usually flies under the radar.

These types of unsung heroes are often the ones who keep vital programs and initiatives running while leaving the credit-taking to others.

The nomination form itself will ask for information such as name and address, organizations to which the nominee belongs and why you think that person deserves to be named Citizen of the Year.

As in years past, one honoree from the Bogalusa area and one honoree from the Franklinton area will be chosen, but keep in mind that the nomination forms — as well as the committee choosing the honoree — are different, so make sure the person nominated lives in the appropriate region.

Last year’s honorees were Johni Miles-Blount and Linda Crain.

After the nomination deadline, past honorees will gather to determine this year’s Citizen of the Year, and that person will be honored over the summer.

So think about those people — your friends, neighbors, fellow churchgoers, whatever — who really make a difference in Washington Parish and send us your thoughts on why they deserve to be the 2015 Citizen of the Year.

We here at The Daily News can’t wait to see your suggestions.
