A Washington Parish jury found a 49-year-old Franklinton man guilty on April 2 of aggravated incest, sexual battery and attempted sexual battery of a child under 13. The defendant, J.D. Thompson, who is a multiple offender, faces 66 to 198 years in prison.

Assistant District Attorney Jay Adair prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Sgt. James Folks of the Franklinton Police Department and Emily Cook of the Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services.

Thompson was arrested Oct. 25, 2013, just days after the victim, then 14 years old, told a school guidance counselor that she had been using the restroom on Aug. 9 of the same year when the boyfriend of a family member entered the bathroom and began kissing and touching her inappropriately. Other family members who lived in the home were away at another relative’s house to watch the first New Orleans Saints’ pre-season game when the incident occurred.

In a later interview with an investigator from the Child Advocacy Center, the victim described another incident that had occurred when she was 11 years old at the home of the same relative. The girl said Thompson came into her bedroom one night, got into bed with her and began kissing and fondling her. She said she told only a family member at the time.

The victim, now 16, testified against Thompson. He has prior sexual battery and obstruction of justice convictions and had failed to register as a sex offender.
