With warm weather comes abundance of spring activities

With spring right around the corner, it’s time to prepare for all the outdoor activities scheduled for Cassidy Park, Columbia Street and surrounding areas.
Spring begins on March 20. Hopefully all the cold weather will move on out of here so we can truly enjoy Mother Nature and the activities associated with the warmer weather.
All the local activities bring in big crowds from other regions and states. Let us not forget the crowds bring their money to be spent at hotels, restaurants and businesses. That is sorely needed revenue for our city and parish.
Not that we need to be reminded, but it is imperative we should be as welcoming as we usually are and give a good impression to those who might be visiting Bogalusa for the first time. The first impression of a city or town is usually the most important. You don’t get a second chance at a first impression.
Activities begin on March 21 with the annual cook-off and barbecue at Cassidy Park. Teams come from far and wide to participate in the popular event.
The first Rendezvous on the Road of the season is set for Friday, March 27, beginning at 6 p.m. Get out, mingle with friends, listen to some music and patronize Columbia Street businesses, which will be open late. The series runs every fourth Friday of the month.
The ninth annual Gospel Music Fest is the next day on March 28 at Cassidy Park. For a nominal $5 admission, music lovers have the opportunity to hear five bands. Shallow Creek gets the music started at 1:15 p.m. At 6 p.m., 7eventh Time takes the stage for the final act.
The citywide Parks and Recreation Department’s Easter Egg Hunt is slated for April 4 at Cassidy Park. It’s refreshing to see the innocence of the children as they scramble to find the eggs scattered around.
Relay for Life is May 2. This is always a good way to remember loved ones stricken by cancer.
So whether it’s to fill your stomach, your shopping bags or your heart, there are plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy all that Bogalusa has to offer.
