Dora Mohon

Dora Lee Davis Mohon, born Dec. 19, 1939, left this earth on Feb. 17, 2015, at St. Tammany Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Warmly known as “Dora the Explorer” to many in the community, she was a devoted leader and advocate for many local organizations in addition to being gainfully employed before retirement. She was a member of the Varnado High School Band Booster Club, Relay for Life, LSU First Aid Unit, Explorer Post 200 Advisor for 40 years, Boy Scouts of America, Blue Birds, Red Cross, Washington Parish Fire District No. 6 board member for 14 years and many other charitable organizations.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James C. Mohon Jr.; and four children, James Emile (Melissa) Mohon of Varnado, Debra Ruth (Shanon) Travis of Amite, Melissa Ann (Charles) Weintritt of Bogalusa and Allen Wade Mohon of Varnado. She is also survived by grandchildren April, Jennifer and Christopher Weintritt, Michael Mohon, Matthew Hardy, Cody Brown, Chance Travis and Kortnie (Lance) Bates; and special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chinecy Ruth Easterling Davis and Earl Emile Davis; brothers, Earl Lorance Davis, John Hansel Davis, Hollis Allen Davis and Paul Davis; grandson, Chase Allen Mohon; and granddaughter, Teresa Ann Mohon.

Visitation will be held at Brown McGehee Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and continuing Saturday from 11 a.m. until services at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Mohon Family Cemetery in Varnado.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Explorer Post 200 of Bogalusa or your favorite charitable organization.
