This week, Bogalusa High School named David Roberts Jr. the school’s new head football coach.

Roberts brings experience from several different places and has done a number of different jobs in the football and coaching world.

Roberts has coached both sides of the ball. He spent last season as Pearl River’s offensive coordinator. When asked about Roberts, Pearl River coach Paul Beebe said Roberts has a great knowledge of the game. He said Roberts brings innovative ideas and said the Lumberjacks made a great hire.

Last Thursday, Bogalusa let the fans meet the final two candidates for the school’s football coaching job.

It was a great idea.

The forum in the school’s library allowed the fans to interact with the two finalists and find out the plan.

But it wasn’t just that. The forum allowed the coaches to speak to the fans and learn about them, which seemed just as beneficial.

When asked about the meeting, Roberts said the biggest thing he learned from the fans is that they care about the players and they want to see them do well, not just in sports, but also in the classroom.

Roberts said he liked that because he wants players with good character on his team. He wants players that will work hard in the classroom.

Roberts also said the fans here are football people and want to win. He said they support the players.

We welcome coach Roberts with open arms to the Magic City. We are excited that he will be part of this community and can’t wait to see the team in 2015.
