When the calendar turns to January, it means a new year is beginning.

It’s a time to reflect for a moment and look forward to the future.

Next week, the Daily News is coming out with its annual Year in Review.

The Year in Review highlights the top news and sports stories from the past year, and what a successful year it was for Washington Parish.

We had an election, numerous events that went extremely well and several schools made history in athletics with some outstanding accomplishments, and we had our fair share of exciting games throughout the parish that came down to the wire.

The parish had a successful Mardi Gras, as the Krewe of MCCA rolled through the streets of Bogalusa to huge crowds on an absolutely perfect day for a parade.

We’re hoping for the same this year. The Krewe of MCCA is set for Feb. 14.

The Free Fair also took place in grand style, as a lot of people made their way on Franklinton for the festivities.

As a parish, we have a lot to be proud of, and it’s the people in the parish who make things go as well as they do.

The new year is already off to a good start, with new ideas coming from newly-elected leaders, including a new district attorney for the first time in three decades, and we are looking forward to another great year.
