Entergy Customer Service Representative Eunice Harris recently presented a $1,000 donation to the Washington Men’s Club.

On hand to receive the Entergy check were Club President Melvin Keith and Treasurer Janola Walker, who also is an Entergy employee in the Bogalusa area.

The mission of the Washington Parish Men’s Club is to engage in community programs and activities that provide solutions to the root causes of the educational, economic, health and other problems that are common to disadvantaged youth in Washington Parish. The Club partners with YMCA, YWCA and faith-based groups to offer information and learning experiences that assists in choosing healthy lifestyles.

The purpose of the club is to increase youth involvement in volunteer community service, decrease high-school dropouts, decrease alcohol and drug use, increase the number of students who pass the LEAP test and decrease youth entrance into the juvenile justice system

The Men’s Club consists of 25 men across Washington Parish, but especially from Bogalusa, who work one-on-one with disadvantaged youth. The club has given more than 25 scholarships in the last five years.

“Entergy is always seeking ways to instill educational, character and lifestyle improvement initiatives within the youth who live in the communities it serves,” Eunice Harris, customer service representative said. “When disadvantaged youth have caring male figures involved in their lives, they develop a sense of hope, respect and positivity. And Entergy wants to be a part of those attributes.”
