Frank L. Bateman

Frank Lillard Bateman, a resident of Denham Springs, died at 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at Golden Age Nursing Home. He was a former longtime resident of Enon and a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Frank was a member of Enon Baptist Church, where he formerly taught Sunday school. He was a former operator for Union Carbide that enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. Frank was very good at woodworking and built many cabinets and remodeled many homes in the area. He was always a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he had special place in his heart for his granddaughter Kelly.

He is survived by two daughters, Lana B. Gamble of San Antonio and Sarah B. Cooper of Denham Springs; son, Clay F. Bateman of Silsbee, Texas; six grandchildren, Wes Gamble, Kristen Cooper, Kelly Cooper, Diana Marshall, Drew Waldrop and Joseph Bateman; 10 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Cory, Camron, Layla, Elise, Aurora, Rob, Jayden, Krista and Ariana; and great-great-grandson, Remington. He is also survived by his brother, Hugh V. Bateman of Enon; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Janel Brumfield of Baton Rouge and Martha Jane and Buford Mizell of the Springhill Community; and sister-in-law, Wynette B. Tripp of Texas City, Texas.

His wife, Kathryn Byrket Bateman; his parent,s Frank Osban Bateman and Lillian Richardson Bateman; and a brother, Delbert Bateman, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held at Crain Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Chris Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow in the Enon Baptist Church Cemetery.

The pallbearers are Randy Bateman, Jon Brumfield, Ron Bateman, Steve Mizell, Greg Mizell, Gary Bateman and Marvin Byrkett. The honorary pallbearers are Joe Richardson, Mike McLin and Dan Holland. Obituaries can be viewed online at www.crainfh.com.
