In January 2014, Louisiana’s WorkReady U adopted the HiSET, or High School equivalency test. The HiSET replaced the equivalency test known as the GED.

The Washington Parish Adult Education Program offers preparation for individuals who are interested in obtaining their HiSET credential. Classes are free and available in Bogalusa, Franklinton and Pine. Individuals interested in preparing for the HiSET are encouraged to come by 800 Main St. in Franklinton or 517 Mississippi Ave. in Bogalusa at the Northside School. Classes are available during the day and evening for students to take advantage of this service.

Classes are taught in the five subject areas that are tested on the HiSET: Language Arts – Writing, Language Arts – Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Individual instructional plans are developed based on assessment results. Students have commented that the Adult Education services they receive are helpful and allow them to work at their own pace and ability.

The Adult Education supervisor, Penny Moses, and her staff are ready to assist and prepare students to take the HiSET.

If anyone would like additional information about the adult education program, call the Washington Parish Adult Education Office at 985-839-7798 or 985-839-7786 or visit one of the locations.
