On Tuesday, the owner of a parish business located in the Hackley community notified the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office that a .22 caliber Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistol had been stolen from his office.

Video from a surveillance camera at the business showed an employee removing the pistol from the office and placing it inside his clothing.

The employee, who was working his final few hours after giving notice that he was taking another job, was identified as Debroxton Deshaun Warren, 36, who resides on 22nd Avenue in Franklinton.

WPSO Lt. Ernest Corkern contacted Sgt. James Holmes of the Franklinton Police Department, who was able to locate Warren at his residence and retrieve the stolen pistol.

Corkern went to the residence and arrested Warren, who was placed in the Washington Parish Jail charged with theft and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. No bond was set.

“I compliment Lt. Corkern and Sgt. Holmes for their action in this matter,” Sheriff Randy Seal said. “Not only was the thief arrested, but a firearm was recovered from a convicted felon. I also commend the business owner who had the foresight to install a video surveillance camera. Every business should have cameras. Video footage makes it easier for law enforcement and more difficult for criminals.”
