Michael Redmond

Michael Allen Redmond died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, N.C. He was 61.

Mr. Redmond was born July 21, 1953, in New Orleans. He was the eldest of three children. He was raised in Bogalusa and loved reading, drawing and fishing. In 1971, Mr. Redmond enlisted for active duty in the U.S. Army, earning the following honors: National Defense Service Medal; Marksman (rifle); Vietnam Service Medal with bronze service star; Vietnam Campaign Medal; and Overseas Service Bar. After his service and many subsequent years of travel, Mr. Redmond settled in Shelby, Ala.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Coast Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, with military honors, and Pastor Jack Mumford officiated.

Michael Allen Redmond was preceded in death by his father, John Allen Redmond; mother, Celeste Creel Allender; stepmother, Thelma Redmond; stepfather, Roy Allender; and stepbrother, Loyd Magee.

He is survived by his daughter, Kelli Redmond McGraw (Terry Kelley), of New Bern, N.C.; brother, Hiram Sylvester Redmond (Laurie), Palmerton, Pa; sister Susan Clarissa Redmond Phillips, (Roger) of Belington, W.Va.; two grandsons, William and Ethan McGraw; and many other loving relatives and friends.
