She joined and became an active member at St. James A.M.E. Church, where she served on the Pastor’s Aid Board, Stewardess Board and the Missionary Society under the leadership of the Rev. David J. Campbell. She served faithfully under the leadership of the Rev. Samuel H. Boyd Sr., the Rev. Martin D. Odom and Pastor Otto W. Duncan Jr. until her illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Genie and Veter Burkhalter Brumfield, and her husband, Spencer J. Reed.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Michael Dwayne Brumfield of New Orleans and Reginald Allen Reed (Lisa) of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Deborah Michelle Reed of Montgomery, Ala.; three sisters, Elnora Brumfield Warren of Harvey, Mary Jane Brumfield Hill (Bobby) of Fayetteville, Ga., and Betty Jean Brumfield (Alvin) of Harvey; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
