Effie Fleming

Effie Miley Fleming, age 89, was born on Nov. 5, 1924, in Bogalusa and passed away on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at her residence in Franklinton.

She was a retired nurse from the Bogalusa Community Medical Center and loved her profession deeply. She lived for her family, and her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved reading, her church, sewing, canning and gardening.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane Caldwell of Bogalusa, and by a son, Milton Wayne (Jennifer) Fleming of Franklinton; five grandchildren, John H. (Nicole) Caldwell of Thomas, Amy Caldwell (Al) Branch, Mechelle Fleming Schilling and Matt Fleming, all of Franklinton, and Mitch Fleming of Hammond; and eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Caroline and Albert Branch III, Brody Scott, Allie Christine and Emmalee Kate Schilling, John Thomas and Connor Nicholas Caldwell. The family greatly appreciates her caregiver, Lucretia Davis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Milton Fleming; and her parents, Melton Miley and Posey Stanford Miley. She greatly loved her 13 sisters and brothers who also preceded her in death, Viola Adams, Pearlie Sheridan, Letha Hebb, Charlie Miley, Otis Miley, Percy Miley, Margie Graves, Clinton Miley, Lou Stafford, Esco Miley, Shelton Miley, Lee Miley and Aline Hunt.

Visitation was held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, from 2:30 until 8 p.m.

Visitation will continue at Ben’s Ford Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, from 1 to 2 p.m. The funeral services will be at 2 p.m., with Bro. Lynn Martin, Bro. Caleb Martin and Bro. Jimmy Byrd officiating. Interment will follow at Ben’s Ford Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Brody Schilling, Albert Branch III, Paul Hunt, Danny Graves, Don Merritt and Lavern Jenkins.

Honorary pallbearers are John Thomas, Connor Nicholas Caldwell and Hubert Mizell.
