Edna Simmons

Edna W. Simmons, born March 21, 1933, passed away Sept. 30, 2014, at her residence at the age of 81. She was a longtime resident of Bogalusa and a member of the Terrace Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons, Ralph Odell Penton and his wife Tammy of Franklinton, Bruce Penton of Bogalusa and Jeff Simmons and his wife Cheree, also of Bogalusa; her daughters, Cynthia Faye Johnston of Theodore, Ala., Chearl Ann Calmes and her husband Patrick of Franklinton and Sarah Cummins and her husband Mike of Covington; and cousin and care giver, Marie Carroll. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, numerous nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Buford Odell Penton and Gerald Simmons; a son, Willie Mac Penton; a brother, Earl Hunt; two sisters, Mary Hunt and Lillie Mae Hillman; a great-great-grandson, Jacolby; and a son-in-law, Marvin Johnston Jr.

Visitation will be held at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, beginning at 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Billy Ray Hines, the Rev. Mike Smith and the Rev. Billy Pierce. Interment will follow in the Rester Cemetery.
