The Dirty Outlaw Dash is scheduled for Saturday at Cassidy Park.

The event is a three-mile obstacle course on trails and through the woods. Participants climb over and climb through obstacles and go through mud pits at designated areas. According to the Dirty Outlaw Dash website, obstacles include Hills, hollers, sand, woods, creek banks, the muddy creek itself, rugged terrain, trails bushes and brush, critters, crawlers and man-made obstacles.

H.L. Brownstone Salon and Tanning Services is sponsoring the event for the first time. Events such as this have been growing in popularity in recent years. There is one held annually in the Bonnet Carre Spillway in St. Charles Parish, and several others have been popping up across the state.

Registration is $45, and signup is scheduled for 7 to 7:45 a.m. Saturday. For a group of 10 or more, the registration fee is $25 per person.

The event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.

Depending on the number of entrants, the start of the race will be staggered. More than 100 participants are expected to take part in the event.

H.L. Brownstone’s Larrilyn Hickman said the event benefits the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. Hickman said the hospital has a mobile unit that comes to Washington Parish for screenings on a regular basis.

“They do free screenings for mammograms, colon cancer, skin cancer, oral cancer and other type of cancers,” Hickman said.

A portion of the proceeds goes to Cassidy Park.
