Ulmer ‘Sid’ Averette

Ulmer Sidney “Sid” Averette, born Dec. 12, 1940, and died Sept. 13, 2014, at Resthaven Living Center in Bogalusa. He was 73 years old.

He was a veteran and served in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years. He retired as master sergeant. During his time in the Air Force he traveled throughout the world and settled back in Bogalusa after his retirement.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Steve Sylvest of Mandeville; and two grandchildren, Caleb Stephen Sylvest and wife, Haley, of McKinney, Texas, and Rebekah Elizabeth Schroeder and husband, Travis, of Mandeville, LA. He is also survived by one brother, Richard Eugene Averette and wife, Glenda, of Poplarville, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Roy and Ophelia Averette of Bogalusa.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at Poole Ritchie Funeral Home in Bogalusa. Pastor Chad Jenkins of Monroe Street Baptist Church officiated. There were military graveside services by the Magic City American Legion Post No. 24.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Resthaven Living Center who cared for Sidney during his time there.
