John Seal

John George Seal, age 77 and a resident of the Canaan Community, died early Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Lakeview Regional Medical Center.

He was a retired dairy farmer and cattleman that also sold bulls and cattle throughout the area. John was a longtime active member of Canaan Baptist Church who was never afraid to witness to others about his faith. He loved playing football as a young man and later watching football with his family. John liked to play his guitar and sing and listen to country music, especially his favorite artist, George Jones. He was always a loving husband, father and grandfather that cherished the time spent with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Corkern Seal of Franklinton; his son, George Seal of Franklinton; his daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Victor Kaiser of Cypress, Texas; seven grandchildren, Scott Seal, Bradley Seal, George Dillon Seal, Dalton Kaiser, Benjamin Kaiser, Macie Seal and Stephanie Kaiser; a great-granddaughter, Berkley Goings; a brother, Kirby Joel Seal of North Carolina; a sister and brother-in-law, Willie and Melvin Slaven of Lake Charles; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his son Jason Bradley Seal; his parents, Wilton Seal and Beatrice Spinks Seal; a brother, the Rev. Carl Seal; and sisters Laverne Varnado, Letha Allen, Cloice Bankston and Wilkie Miller.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home on Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, with Bro. Stan Adams and Bro. Brent King officiating. Burial will follow in the Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery.

The pallbearers are Scott Seal, Bradley Seal, George Dillon Seal, Dalton Kaiser, Jay Dell Varnado and Darryl Stogner. The honorary pallbearers are Benjamin Kaiser and Christopher Waskom.
